Black Oil Sunflowers
In agriculture, sunflower seeds can be used as a supplement for livestock. They are often found in bird seed. Mature sunflower heads are a favorite treat for deer.

Planting Instructions:
Sow seeds 1″ deep (2.5 cm) and 12″ apart; rows 30″ apart. Start the seeds outdoors after the risk of frost has passed. Keep the soil moist but never soggy (to prevent rot).
Sunflowers typically emerge 12 to 16 days post planting. Approximately 60 days to flowering.

ALBERTA OPEN FARM DAYS - August 17, 2024
Alberta Open Farm Days is a collaborative, province-wide event that gives Albertans an opportunity to experience the farm and understand where their food comes from. It is a backstage pass to meet the farmer, experience Ag-tourism in Alberta and taste local foods direct from the producer. At Out to Lunch Farmstead, we will have a demonstration cover-crop sunflower field for selfies (and winter livestock feed), antique tractor show & shine, and farm tour. Save the date!
