FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
IS YOUR PRODUCE CHEMICAL/HORMONE FREE?
We manage our land without the use of herbicides, pesticides, fungicides or chemical fertilizers. However, our poultry are fed locally sourced conventional grains. All of our stock is hormone free and never given antibiotics. If antibiotic vet care is needed those animals would be diverted away from farm-to-consumer product. We actively manage our stock to avoid costly veterinary intervention.
WHAT IS REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE?
Macro: Regenerative agriculture is a conservation and rehabilitation approach to food and farming systems. It focuses on topsoil regeneration, increasing biodiversity, improving the water cycle, enhancing ecosystem services, supporting biosequestration, increasing resilience to climate change, and strengthening the health and vitality of farm soil.
Micro: Regenerative pasturing includes moving animals to fresh pasture regularly so that they don't overgraze the grass, which encourages the grass to quickly regrow. The animal droppings naturally fertilize the grass, in turn feeding soil biology, and the repeated regrowth cycle biosequesters carbon in the soil. It's a win-win for everyone.
WHAT DO YOU GROW?
Our staple products are grass-finished lamb and organically fed pastured poultry. At limited scale, we also produce eggs, honey, garlic, root vegetables, jams/chutneys, dog treats and hand crafted soaps. We have seasonally available berries as a U-pick. As time allows or customers request, we grow other items.
WHAT IS 'PASTURED'?
Our stock are rotated to fresh pasture regularly. With regard to poultry, the birds are secured from predation via chicken tractors that house their feed and water and provide shelter from the elements. Our sheep are moved across the farm with paddock divisions using electric nets and polywire. The sheep are guarded by Anna and Oreo - their livestock guardian dogs.
HOW DO YOU SELL YOUR LAMB & POULTRY?
We sell government inspected lamb process either British Columbia or Alberta depending on the customers location. We also sell farm processed meat in accordance with Alberta's On Farm Slaughter Operation License. In both cases, whole lamb requires a deposit. We also sell farm processed poultry. All poultry orders must be confirmed prior to the processing date and a deposit is required. Our meat is sold frozen unless specifically requested by the customer and if fresh must be picked up from the farm on processing day. Lamb is cut according to customer preference.
